A Message of Support

Hello dear students and families.

I have heard from many of you based on the survey I sent out earlier that you still do not have power. Many of you may not be able to see these messages yet as well.

We want to ensure your safety is first as well as the safety of our staff at COA.

Due to the ongoing recovery efforts after Tropical Storm Helene, we have made the decision to extend our school closure through Friday, October 4. We know that many of you are still facing challenges with power and internet outages, and we want to ensure that everyone has had the time needed to focus on personal and community recovery across COA, including our families and the staff.

During this closure, you may still see missing assignments or live sessions scheduled in the system. Please disregard these. Many of our teachers are still without power and cannot log in to cancel classes or exempt assignments. I also read some of the concerns in the survey and you will not be marked absent from Friday of last week or any day this week. No work is required during this week. Please use this time to stay safe.

Based on the concerns I read in the survey, I am sharing some resources I hope are helpful to you.

  1. Food banks across the state: 
  2. For damage to your homes, please contact your home owners Insurance and/or renters insurance or to speak with your landlord for help during this time.
  3. For school supplies, please email me at: psieger@k12.com for what may be needed at this time.

We appreciate your understanding and support during this time and we will continue to provide daily updates. Please stay safe and we look forward to resuming normal school operations once it is safe to do so. Please do not hesitate to reach out if we can help in any way.
