Learning Coach Spotlight: A True COA Unicorn

Stories & Spotlights
COA LC Spotlight

At Carolus Online Academy, our Learning Coaches play a vital role in student success. Every so often, we meet someone whose dedication truly stands out. Today, we are proud to spotlight Isaiah M.’s grandmother, an exceptional Learning Coach who embodies the heart, accountability, and advocacy that define COA High School.

Described by High School Math Teacher Ms. Sophia Stephenson as a true “unicorn,” Isaiah’s grandmother consistently goes above and beyond to support her grandson’s academic and personal growth. Her commitment is unwavering, proactive, and deeply inspiring to both staff and students.

What Makes Her a Standout Learning Coach?

Relentless Advocacy

When Isaiah’s schedule is not correct, she takes immediate action. She ensures he remains present in class while actively communicating with counselors to resolve the issue. Her approach is clear and effective: problems are not ignored, they are addressed.

Active Classroom Presence

Isaiah’s grandmother is fully engaged during live sessions and is never hesitant to speak up. Whether she is clarifying a technical concern, addressing a scheduling question, or requesting direct support, she models self-advocacy and collaboration every step of the way.

Constant Encouragement and Accountability

During class, she sits beside Isaiah to ensure he reads each question carefully, responds thoughtfully, and feels comfortable asking for help when needed. She strikes a thoughtful balance between encouragement and high expectations, holding Isaiah, and everyone involved, accountable for his learning.

The Heart of COA

Her dedication reflects the very best of what it means to be a Learning Coach at Carolus Online Academy. She actively partners with teachers, supports her student with intention, and shows that success is built through consistency, communication, and care.

We are incredibly grateful for Learning Coaches like Isaiah’s grandmother. She is a powerful reminder that behind every successful student is a committed support system and a strong school-family partnership.
