Graduating at 16: Naomi’s Story of Resilience and Faith 

At just 16 years old, Naomi is preparing to cross the graduation stage at Carolus Online Academy (COA) – an achievement that reflects not only her academic drive, but also her resilience and sense of purpose. 

Setting Goals Early On 

Naomi didn’t stumble into early graduation – it was something she envisioned from the start. 

“Even in freshman year, I knew I wanted to graduate early,” she shared. While her previous school didn’t offer that pathway right away, Naomi stayed focused. By the time she transitioned to Carolus Online Academy, she, her mom, and her counselor worked together to map out a plan that would make her goal a reality. 

Her strategy? Stay ahead. 

“If all my content is available, I would like to just get it all done first,” she explained. That proactive approach helped her accelerate through coursework and stay on track for her ambitious timeline. 

Finding Stability Through Change 

Naomi’s transition to online learning came during a particularly challenging time. After Hurricane Helene severely impacted her family’s home, they relocated. The experience brought both physical and emotional challenges. 

“It was really bad … there were blackouts for a good while, and a tree fell on our place,” Naomi recalled. “Going back to school after all that was going to be hard.” 

Online learning became more than just an academic setting – it became a space for healing. 

“It helped me physically, but it also helped me emotionally … to ground myself and mentally be able to do things,” she said. 

Pursuing Purpose Beyond the Classroom 

While completing high school ahead of schedule, Naomi has also been working toward an associate degree in Biblical Studies. Remarkably, she will complete that program just days before graduating high school. 

“My love for the Lord … my walk with Christ – that’s what inspired me,” she said. 

Naomi hopes to continue her education after graduation, exploring colleges in the Southeast and potentially pursuing a career centered on helping others. 

“Maybe something like therapy … helping people mentally, or working with the elderly,” she shared. 

Creativity, Curiosity … and Growth 

Outside of academics, Naomi thrives on creativity and self-expression. She’s taught herself guitar over the past two and a half years and recently picked up crocheting and painting. She also enjoys dancing, with a special connection to praise dance. 

A lifelong reader, Naomi is drawn to both fiction and nonfiction, along with sci-fi – interests that reflect her love for history and learning. 

Looking Towards the Future 

Naomi’s journey is one of determination, adaptability and faith. Graduating early is just one milestone in a path that’s already filled with purpose. 

As she looks to the future, one thing is clear: Naomi is driven not just by achievement, but by a desire to make a meaningful difference.
