On December 7, 2024, Carolus Online Academy (COA) brought the community together with a festive and impactful event at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Carolus Cares, an initiative designed to support at-risk students both within our virtual school and throughout South Carolina, aims to provide much-needed resources while fostering a supportive environment. This event exemplified our mission of uplifting families and spreading joy within the community.

A Day To Celebrate

Held from 10 AM to 2 PM, the event welcomed attendees of all ages with open arms. Families enjoyed a festive atmosphere filled with joy and laughter.

Mrs. Claus (portrayed by Executive Director Pam’s daughter) was the star of the event, delighting children by handing out candy and wrapped gifts. The sight of Mrs. Claus created unforgettable memories for families, spreading the holiday cheer.

One young attendee expressed their excitement with a heartwarming question, saying,

“Can I really take all these books home? I really like reading and I have 11 books I want to take. I can’t believe this is all free”

Community Support in Action

One of the highlights of the event was the wide range of free items. Families enjoyed tasty food, refreshing drinks, and fun activities, all at no cost. Free clothes and shoes were also available for families in need, making sure no families would need to worry about being cold this winter. This made it possible for everyone to take part in the celebration without having to spend any money. Additionally, hearing screenings were offered, giving families access to important health services.

A Mission to Help

Carolus Online Academy is committed to supporting families in need. Through events like this, we aim to connect families with valuable resources while creating opportunities for fun and meaningful connections.

At COA, we are dedicated to helping students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. With 84% of our students classified as economically disadvantaged (23% higher than the state average) we understand the importance of programs that address these needs.

Words from our Executive Director

Pam, the Executive Director of Carolus Online Academy and one of the event organizers, shared the significance of the event:

“I feel so blessed to see Carolus families as well as families from the community come to our events. Carolus Cares is a wonderful way to bring the community together and show support for students and families across South Carolina. Watching families load our school wagons with needed items to take to their cars is heartwarming. This event is a small way Carolus can contribute to providing donated items from our staff such as books for all ages, gently used clothing and household supplies, toys and games, shoes and accessories, as well as school supplies that were donated by the South Carolina Public Charter School District. The smiles and hugs we get at each event fills my heart with joy and happiness. “

This event reflects our ongoing commitment to providing essential support to both families and students in our community.

Looking Ahead

The 4th Carolus Cares event is scheduled to take place in Greenville, SC, on February 15, with details to be shared with families soon. As these events continue, the hope is that more families will recognize their unique value and participate, even during the summer months. Plans are also underway for a one-year Carolus Cares anniversary celebration in Columbia this August. These events are open to all families across the state, and everyone is encouraged to attend.
