Turning the Page on Reading at Carolus Online Academy

Stories & Spotlights
National Literacy Month

At Carolus Online Academy (COA), we believe every student deserves the tools to thrive in a digital learning environment. Reading – one of the most powerful tools of all – boosts comprehension, critical thinking, and creativity. As we celebrate National Literacy Month this September, here are three tips to help your child embrace the joy of reading:

1. Make a Cozy Reading Area

Create a designated reading area at home, even if it’s just a comfortable chair with good lighting – and maybe a blanket. A comfortable space helps students associate reading with relaxation and enjoyment.

2. Connect with Others Through Books

Learning online doesn’t mean students can’t share their interest in reading. Encourage your child to share book recommendations with friends or suggest starting a small virtual book club with classmates. These kinds of connections – and discussions – keep reading social and fun.

3. Be a Role Model

When children see parents and caregivers reading for fun – whether it’s a novel, a newspaper or even an article on the computer – they’re more likely to value reading themselves. At COA, we encourage families to model lifelong learning in everyday life.

This National Literacy Month let’s celebrate the stories that connect us by encouraging our students to succeed academically, and by carrying a love of reading into the future.
